Re: Help for a recruit wanting to join the 501st?

I may take you up on the offer. Even if it's just helping to fit things together. My friends/family just don't get the obsession with detail and accuracy.

Re: Help for a recruit wanting to join the 501st?

I was thinking that too, but the Tusken's dress in thick layers. Seems the perfect choice for winter trooping!

Re: Help for a recruit wanting to join the 501st?

If you're coming back to Maker Faire on Sunday bring you tusken stuff. A couple of us tuskens will be there and we can take a look at it for you and give you some feedback on what you need if anything. Do you have a gaffi yet? I am going to be working on some leg and arm wraps on Sunday BTW. I wish...

Help for a recruit wanting to join the 501st?

Just got back from Maker Faire, and once again, you guys have inspired me. I've picked up numerous pieces over the years for a Tusken Raider and TIE Pilot build. I've done some work here and there, but it's hard to stay motivated with family, work, etc. If I don't send this out, now, I'm afraid I'll...

Re: Working /w Fiberglass

I'll show you some painting tricks if you make it over to Jolly's tomorrow. There are some tricks to painting with a rattlecan to make it look like it came out of a body shop. Could you post something about these tricks? Would love to learn them! I would have loved to have made it out yesterday to ...

Re: TK9317's Tusken Build (Pic Heavy)

Re: I Give Up!! Seamstress' please!!!

well I don't know how to sew, that hurts, and i don't have a sewing machine so it takes forever. I have no idea how I'm going to make the hood or cut it to lay right. I was just using kitchen shears with a cheaper fabric to practice but it just keeps coming out like garbage. I know realistically I ...

Re: I Give Up!! Seamstress' please!!!

What problems are you having? I assume you're using monk's cloth? Did you wash it before you started cutting it? This is critical to the process. My mc shrunk 20% when I washed it for my Tusken robes. When you're dealing with fabric, you NEED good scissors for it. I bought a $30 - $40 pair (using a ...

Gaffi paint suggestions?

Hey gang, Well I finally have some time this weekend to get back to the ol' Tusken, and I hope to finish up my Gaffi stiff this weekend. Tonight I plan on carving some tribal designs into the main shaft of it. Other than that, construction is complete. Anyone have any advice on painting it? Up to th...

Re: My Tusken build

I'm pretty much done with my mask. For now. I think I'll have to hit it with a little more weathering once it warms up, and when my robes are done, I'll finish off the neck and neck wraps. But here it is for now: http://www.ericbrouwer.com/tuskenBuild/wrapped.jpg http://www.ericbrouwer.com/tuskenBui...

Re: My Tusken build

More pics. Hopefully not overdoing it in this thread! Here's a picture of the hole I cut out to mount my fan. I soon gave up on the fan idea. Once I did a test fit, I couldn't get the fans away from the top of my head. I was worried about my hair getting tangled up in the blades and scalping me. htt...

Re: My Tusken build

Thanks guys! :) Let me start out by apologizing for this set of pics. I took them with my Droid. I ran into a problem wrapping the leather straps around the mouth. I got the first one on okay. Sort of. I used an old leather belt ($3.99 at Goodwill) for this. Great suggestion Roger! As you all know, ...

My Tusken build

A few months ago, I got together with several members of the GLG at Wags place to hang out, and learn from more experienced builders. I took all the Tusken pieces I had accumulated, but never had the confidence to get started on. After working with those guys, and messaging back and forth with Roger...

Interesting... I was thinking of trying to soak the belt and see what happened. How do I go about steaming it? Just set up a pot on the stove and boil some water, holding the leather in the steam?

Tusken mask build problem

Hey gang! Hope everyone had a great Christmas! I need some help with my Tusken Raider mask. I was humming along building my Studio Creations based mask, and ran into a snag. The problem I'm having relates to wrapping the leather straps around the mouth. I got the first one on okay. Sort of. I used a...
