Re: Any 3D printer recommendations?

If you need any help with the 3D models once you get your hands on the printer, I'm a pretty fair hand with a couple different 3D modeling programs and would be happy to help.

Re: I'm back... need some help :)

I don't know anything specific about your particular armor, but I've thrown together two sets of RT-MOD and have a few (hopefully) helpful tips. These are solely my own opinion. 1. Dremel. If you haven't bought one yet, you're looking for the rotary variety. There's an optional extender snake thing ...

Re: Sheet ABS source

I don't know any local sources, but you might try contacting Mike at Trooperbay and see if he has sheets that size. He does have smaller pieces for sale in his online store but they're more like 6 inches by maybe a foot and a half. Good thick stuff, and he usually ships quickly.

Re: Almost to the end of the build- Help!

I'm not sure if Trooperbay sent me thicker abs sheets or Dritz changed something, but I'm having awful results with them now. The plastic's got to be really thin for the male snaps to get a proper crimp or whatever you'd call it. You might have to sand on the plastic until it's really thin to get go...

Re: TK on the way!

When I first opened the box and saw the face piece of the helmet, I thought it must have been a faulty vacu-form.

Re: New trooper looking for boots and a blaster

I'm real happy with the e-11 kits I put together from doopydoos.com, but they do take a little Dremel finesse to better shape a few of the parts, and grind out a few areas to replace with actual parts (like the allen screws on the barrel).

Re: Possible armor modifications?

It might be as simple as shortening the straps between the chest plate and the ab section and/or the back plate and the kidney plate. This might pull the whole thing up while pulling it down on your shoulders more. Is that foam in there as a spacer between your actual shoulders and shoulder strap? I...

Re: Almost to the end of the build- Help!

I had good results just cutting the webbing with scissors then running the flame of a lighter over the end to melt it a bit and keep it from fraying. A typical soldering iron makes a perfect size hole for the snaps and will also keep the hole from fraying.
