What's the best way to make props & jewlery?? I'm looking at doing 2 Sailor Scout costumes and I have no idea where to really begin with the jewlery and props.

If you want to do it on the cheap you need quality silicone and read up on cold cast resin. All are available from smooth-on.

I'm looking to do it affordably and on a beginners level. I have never done this kind of thing before.

Moved to the costume section.

You should contact Mira_Darkstar. She has done some nice work with Sculpty, which I believe is available a Michaels or Jo-Anns.

I do most of my Padme jewelry using Sculpey or Primo clay. You can buy it at Michael's, Hobby Lobby, or JoAnn's. You form it how you want it and then bake it in the oven to harden it. Here are some blog posts with some of the jewelry I've made:

Oh, and my Leia bikini features a lot of Sculpey/Primo clay too:

Thanx for the help. I'm gonna try the Sculpey for the jewelry. Now I just have to figure out hoe to do the Time Key prop.

I would start with a PVC pipe (that's what i am using for my Yuna staff) and then maybe do wood, sculpty, foam or something else for the key notches.

If this is it, then I'd say start with a wire hanger for the heart portions as the frame, with a clay build-up around it. The spheres could be made with acrylic balls, I think.

If you go with the wire as a base and sculpey around the wire, that's what I did for my Leia bikini top (see the link in my previous post for pics). Otherwise, you could try foam core/foam board or craft foam if you want something lighter.

*Edit, also, for the sphere on the top of the staff you could use a clear acrylic Christmas ornament, you should be able to find them at craft stores like Michael's or Hobby Lobby. You can paint the inside so the paint doesn't scratch off.

Crimson- Yes that is the Time Key.

I might have to try a wire hanger for the heart at the top.

A yellow or gold vinyl and a gem/jewel?

I'd suggest craft foam, painted gold with an acrylic jem. That's how I did my daughter & my Jasmine costumes for Halloween.

(I forgot my necklace in the rush, but the last picture of just the kids you can see my daughter's craft foam necklace)
