hair dryer?

Post by DeafTrooper »

Will a hair dryer work just as good as a heat gun for shaping abs? I got a little over zealous when putting on plastic sludge and got some warp-age.

If you aren't careful with the hair dryer, it can also cause some warping. I used it to help shape some of my TK parts and the part that warped was luckily covered with a finishing strip.

If you have ABS, it wouldn't be practical (too much time, and not enough precision for such a dense and thick material). Even for HIPS, a hair dryer is a bit too "brute force," so to speak.

actually, it isn't any major forming. i just need to straighten the seam of the chest piece of my clone that got a little bent when the sludge cured. it bends outward at probably a 35-40 degree angle.

Agreed, what I was trying to accomplish never worked.

Ok, finally found my camera so I could take a pic. This is what I am talking about. I just need to straighten it out a little bit. Not looking to do any major forming.
