Submission Photo Advice

Post by stasz »

Hey Troops!

I should have my Biker Scout buttoned up in the next day or two! I'm going to take a few quick pics and post them at BS.N for some critique and adjustment, and then get my proper submission photos together.

I know the obvious: front, back, sides, bucket on and off...

Are there any tips anyone has as far as getting exactly what our GML needs captured? Is the camera on a Galaxy S5 sufficient? It's 16 megapixel and takes a pretty high res picture. Frankly, it's better than my actual digital camera :/

I have a few friends who are quasi-professional photographers who would be happy to help me out. Is it worth going this route?

Any thoughts are much appreciated!

Nothing fancy needed. Just as long as they are high resolution pics so they can zoom in on them to look at the details.

Lighting and background are the things to consider when taking submission photos. Outdoors in the natural light is best. Since it's getting warmer out now, it might be worth it to take your pics outdoors. As for background, you will want something plain and in a contrasting color.(in your case, something that is not black or white)

Give your Galaxy a shot. If the pictures come out good, submit them. If they don't, get some help. Ripcode, our GML, will let you know if he needs any additional pics or if they are not good enough for your profile.

Good Luck!

The following tips will help make sure that you get the right photos to the GML on your first try:

-Only submit pictures of yourself alone against a plain background (no convention photos, please).

-We will need photos with your helmet/mask on and off (if applicable).

-You must include full-length views of your costume from the front, back and both sides.

-Be sure to take your photos with adequate lighting and at a high-resolution to help us inspect the details.

-Do not wear any non-canon accessories or add ons, including jewellery, glasses, earrings, (unit patches, extra weapons, pauldrons when not part of the canon costume etc...)

-If you include any weapons such as a blaster or lightsaber, please ensure that they conform to the weapons policy.

Believe me follow his directions because you do not want to have to take multiple approval pictures.

No Andy is not special. He sent me high quality pics and followed the simple instructions I sent him.

I know cell phone cameras have come a long way, but be cautious. Although 16 Megapixels should do the trick ;) I ended up using a high end camera for pics when it was all said and done. But my first photos were taken with an iPhone 4s  (8 Megapixels if I am not mistaken)

My photos were with a Canon G2 2MP camera back in 2004. :)

(of course, my costume back then wouldn't be even close to approvable today)

Hey, when I first started trooping in '99, we had to take our film from our event pics over to Rite-Aid to get our photographs developed. Then put the photographs onto a scanner at home and scan them in so we could post them online. Slowly over time, members with digital cameras started trickling in. So by '04, that Canon G2 2MP would have been the ultimate in high end quality pics.

It is amazing how fast the times change  Soon you will be able to wear a camera in your eye. The contact camera, linked to your brain and activated when you want a photo. Of course Google Glass can do that too.
