Great Lakes Garrison & Base

OK I admit it.....I just can't keep a secret about something I'm excited about. Since I've already told several people at the last couple troops, I may as well spill the beans...................I've decided to sell off the parts to my Shadow Scout and Snow Scout costumes because................it's time that we here in Michigan have a CHEWBACCA!!!!!
I'm making progress on the suit. It's coming along slowly but surely. I'm modeling mine after a Chewie from New England - there are pics of his amazing costume on the Legion Mission Reports under the event the NEG (I think) did at a minor league baseball game. Here are the shoes I am putting together:


I'm getting a set of toes shortly (now that DC is over) to add to the front. Assuming I get the usual 4" or so of extra height from the mask, I'll top out at right around 7'. Duck is working on the bowcaster for me .

Here's the last picture I took about a week ago of my progress on the suit.


I've done some more latch hooking (that's right - I'm latch hooking the hair into the whole suit ) on the back side until my grey hair arrives (had problems with the first company so I finally found another source for the color I need). My goal is to have this ready for the Icehawks game at the end of Jan. The mask is going to take some work so hopefully I can pull it off!!! I'll keep everyone posted (assuming you WANT me to).

I saw some of your post on the legion boards and was wondering what you were up to!
Looks absolutely amazing already.

Hope to troop with you soon as Chewy...looks like I better start working on a pair of binders!

Are you going to do the stilts with it? Looks awesome so far, you'll have to put in your application with the RL when all is said and done

No stilts. Between the feet in the pic above and the extra height on the mask, I'll top out at right around 7'0" which I think is good enough. I thought about stilts, but was afraid if I boosted the legs TOO much my arms would look out of proportion. This way will put me at worst on even level with Vader and probably at least a good half a foot taller than most other troopers, so the desired effect will still be there.

Nice work, and your right about the stilts it make the costume look dumb with a short armed Chewy.

Will be frak'n sweet!! Love when we get new types of costumes in the Garrison. We have some EU stuff, RC's and now you working on this. Nice job

The even better news is that this place I got it from was 1/2 the price of the cheesey company in England that wanted to charge me extra shipping because the box was too heavy but NEVER TOLD ME!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to go up about another 2 inches and then I can start really adding in the grey hair. I'm adding a touch here and there and it's really giving it a nice effect.

While I was waiting for my grey hair to come in the mail, I started on the back side of the shirt as well.....

So, I suppose the big question is...will you be able to make the Chewie roar?

I'm working on that.
There is a website from the UK where the guy has like 40 different Chewie growls, roars, etc. that can be loaded onto an mp3 player. Just need to figure out how to play them. I have a couple of ideas including this thing...

The speaker comes right in the shirt and has a pushbutton remote to play the sounds you want. A couple guys on the RL boards have ordered one. If they like it and think it will be loud enough I might go with that and not have to strap a speaker around me.
