It's super easy to walk around in drywall stilts. Just walk around for about a 1/2 hour and you should get the hang of it. Just remember lift your knees more than normal...you don't want to drag the foot pad of the stilt. That's how you trip.

Re: Chewie build thread......
That would be Darren Blum of Garrison Excelsior (aka "knightshade" or the 501st's Webmaster). The downside to his set-up is the shorter, out of proportion arms, like Chris mentioned.Wags wrote:I know the guy from New York is on stilts and had a little girl, about 4, and he had no problem snatching her up to play with her. I would imagine it would take some time to get used to.
Now, as far as building the feet.. .hmmmm might take some reading on that one. Maybe you could contact someone who has the stilts and see how they did it?
Re: Chewie build thread......
You can get these custom sized to the height you need exactly.
They have a flat stable foot bed and the peg bottom can have a normal sized foot attached with no need for a goofy monster Rollerblade boot
Hope I helped

I like the sound of it, but the link goes to an auction for NASCAR helmets!
Re: Chewie build thread......
If you find the real link, I'd love to see it.
Re: Chewie build thread......
Interesting......
I'd be curious to see how those would work stability wise. When they offer lessons, I'm guessing it will take a lot of getting used to.
Thanks Hyper!!

I wonder if we (and by we I mean me and whomever I could recruit to help out who is more skilled in these areas than I) could make some sort of a foot at the bottom with some more braces connected to the stilt so I had more to walk on than the little peg.
Anyone who would like to look at the link
http://shop.pegstilts.com/15foottalladu ... asfir.aspx
and give any suggestions, I'd love to hear them.
I did order the stilts I listed above already (the price was just too good to pass up) but if a way could be found to use these that people think is better, I'm pretty sure I could dump the stilts and get my $$ back. I'm liking the idea of these being less bulky (and probably lighter) than the drywall stilts as long as something could be made up to get more support.

Maybe I don't understand, but after you "build up" on the peg portion of the stilt you would have a big foot pad...just like the drywall stilts...only you wouldn't have the flexible "ankle". You would be walking around with fused ankles like Bill Walton, which won't be easy.

Re: Chewie build thread......
When it comes to peg or drywall. Ask your self this W.W.W.D what would wampa do?
That and if peg legs were ment to be used for big work loads, then why were drywall stilts made? DW stilts were made to be used for long periods of time. And to be easy for anyone to get the hang of it.
Go drywall

The stilts arrived today.
Put them together and strapped them on - not bad for a first effort. Need a couple shots of WD40 so the Wookiee doesn't squeek, though

Re: Chewie build thread......
If he falls he will have more than a trick knee. Make sure you have a person with you at all times who you can trust.
Re: Chewie build thread......
There may be hope yet!!
I tried the pants I have now over the stilts and from where I stood, they didn't look too bad. I'll try to get my son to take a pic one of these days soon and get some feedback. I have adjustable suspenders so I can lower the crotch part to help balance out the extra leg length.
IF the pants I have will work, then all I need to do is make and latch hook leg parts from about my ankle to the top of the foot that I will build on the bottom of the stilt. That will cut a HUGE amount of time off of this. I can then hopefully come up with a way to add or remove the extra leg length depending on if I'm using the stilts or the boots. Velcro is an idea, but it doesn't mix with all that hair too well . Some small snaps put in might do the trick. I'm open to any other ideas as well.

Picture of my current pants over the stilts......
Picture with the shirt on to judge arm length
So the way I'm looking at those, the pants look pretty good over the stilts, but I'll probably need to add a bit to the arms to balance it out.
Any other opinions are welcome - whether they agree with my assessment or not.

Re: Chewie build thread......
Could you attach the new length to the shoes or make maybe have it strap to your ankle?

Re: Chewie build thread......
Not sure. I'm pondering this daily.....
The other thing I'm looking at is getting over and around my shoes without it looking weird with a giant bump in the middle of my leg. One suggestion I got on the RL forum was to add like a triangle of mesh (with hair of course) to the back of the pants I have now starting from about my knee to give it a little more room to pull over and around my feet.
I'm also thinking of bolting a pair of shoes right to the foot plate which would not only eliminate the need for foot straps (although I may keep the toe strap depending on how far up the foot I can get the bolts) but would also let me scoot the shoe back a bit farther since I wouldn't need the heel bracket either.
