Voice Amps

Post by Voss »

I'm planning on picking up one of the Aker Voice amps for my Arc. I was curious if any of you had experience with the either the PTT cable or the wireless headset? Or, if you have a basic unit do you wish you had one of those options now?

I'm just deciding if I want to go basic or get the whole kit. I might eventually get an Icomm which comes with its own PTT but thats down the road.

I use an Aker 1506 with PTT. I tried using the unit without PTT, but did not like it at all. I've broken one PTT cable after about 3 months of use, and got another one and I've had no problems with it.

I use a wired mic and cannot comment on the wireless ones....I have to say I'm not a fan of having a bunch of boxes in my helmet though, and will probably never go wireless. I've only had a problem with the wire part of the mic once, and it was my own fault for not feeding enough slack into my helmet.

As of the Loons game, I also use an iComm unit with my Aker, also with PTT. Besides the static burst being a tad loud compared to your voice (may be a mic positioning problem), I like it a lot....I just need to figure out a convenient mounting point for it.

Let me know if you have further questions.

I have the AKER PTT and wireless set up. It is hit and miss. I don't recommend the wireless part at all. A. because it barely fits in a TK bucket and B. it is unreliable.

The Aker speaker is what most of us use and it by itself it great.

Me too. I tried the push to talk and didn't like it. There was too much prep involved to position it right. The wires used to make it were really thick and hard to bend just right. It was easier just to go without it.

I ended up changing the wired mic that came with the Aker for a smaller, thinner, lighter one and I like it much better.

I never went with a device that had a static burst because the troopers in the movies didn't have a burst. They only had a "click" noise. I can replicate that "click" myself without a box.

You never stop talking anyways, so a PTT would have been a waste.

I like to use the Rom/fx series of amps, although it is fairly expensive to get one, you do get the nice benefit of the static effect.
