BB-8 Complete
BB-8 has been completed. At least the static portion of the build. I still plan to weather him and I will continue progress to have him fully robotic.

Yes. The sphere was 3D printed in my basement. Just ordered internal parts to hopefully get him rolling.Husky wrote:Was that done on your 3D printer? That's looks awesome!

Out of curiosity, how may rolls of filament did you go through? Did you use PLA or ABS?mrcosmo wrote:Yes. The sphere was 3D printed in my basement. Just ordered internal parts to hopefully get him rolling.Husky wrote:Was that done on your 3D printer? That's looks awesome!

All PLA. ABS warps too much. About 6 rolls for the body. I did not print the dome but that's probably 2 rolls. It matters how many shells and the percentage infill you use. Of course this includes the times I had failed prints. But this was my first project so I learned by trial and error. The bB8 builders forum has great tips for printing.

I found PLA easier to work with. I was thinking of printing a BB-8. Thanks for the info.mrcosmo wrote:All PLA. ABS warps too much. About 6 rolls for the body. More progress on BB-8. Drive system is installed. Just got the magnetic head mount to work. I need some tuning up before he can roll safely. He is on schedule to debut at Beaumont Children's visit.

Most excellent job, Kevin!
Re: BB-8 Complete
Kevin, where did you find how many of a body rings pieces to print? They are quartered, correct?
I found where is says how many triangles to print of each kind to build one larger triangle, but for the orange rings it doesn't really say in the PDF.
Am I over looking something?
