TK-9317's Rum Sleg Build - WIP

I have been working on a new costume for the SW character Rum Sleg.
He is a bounty hunter.
Here is some information on Rum Sleg from the internet...so it HAS TO BE TRUE!!!
Ref.- Wookieepedia
Q: In Episode I, on the morning of the Boonta Eve Podrace, just after Darth Maul's probe droid zooms across the screen, we see a skull-faced being in an orange space suit walk by. Who is this guy, and what alien species is he?
A: This character is identified as Rum Sleg, a bounty hunter, in Decipher Inc.'s Young Jedi Collectible Card Game. There's no notation about his species- the skull-like face is definitely part of the helmet and not any organic makeup effect, so it's possible he's a human. as a fun bit of trivia: All the spacemen seen lurking about Mos Espa were put in afterward in postproduction. They are all ILM staffers wandering across green or bluescreen sets to add to the city's port feel.
This too...
Rum Sleg's costume was present in the crowd of the Boonta Eve Classic. It stands to reason this was Rum. Rum Sleg was named for his Young Jedi CCG card after Dan Bojanowski's Star Wars RPG character, whose battle cry was "Just Chill!"
An action figure of Rum Sleg was made for Hasbro's 2009 Legacy Collection. The figure featured a removable helmet, which did not reveal Sleg's face behind his faceplate but does show that he has whitish, lumpy, slimy skin and a brace of dreadlock-like appendages that are tied back in a ponytail. Whatever species Sleg may be, it is therefore confirmed that he is not human.
I started collecting pieces for this costume last year after Hasbro release the Rum Sleg action figure as part of the Legacy Collection.
Although he has very limited screen time (6 or 7 seconds I think) his action figure was pretty popular so I might get a few hard core fans that will recognize who he is....or who I am!
Here is a video of his screen time.

That is awesome!! I always wondered if someone was going to make that character after I picked up the fig. Very well done so far. Can't wait to see it in person someday.

Are you going to have it at motor city? Just asking, cause Thomas will be there. Nothing like getting the look over by the guy who will have to approve it anyway. I will be doing the same thing with my Kal.

Yes, I planned on suiting up to walk around a bit to see how it feels and to make sure things weren't falling apart and such. Walking around the house for a couple minutes here and there is a lot different than walking around in a real trooping environment.
Your right...might as well have Thomas check it out now and see what happens from there.

Update 7.19.2010
Been working on this a little at a time in preparation for CV.
I will be trooping in this on Thursday.
Tusken on Friday and TK on Saturday.
Anyway....
the boots.
We do not see Rum's boots on the screen from Episode 1 and much like a lot of this costume I will be using screen grabs from the movie to validate the character, and the action figure for detail reference.
Mounted Chest Respirator
Base
Components
Cover Grid
Primed and Test Fit
Painted
Mock Electronics
Assembled
Mounted to Chest
I also added a collar assembly to the chest piece (it is hard to see the detail in the pic since it is a lot of black).
I also modified the cut of the lower chest piece to match the cut of the action figure. This required moving the strap locks and extending the straps.
The strap locks may now be in the way of the hose girdle/wrap thingy around the torso. Have to try it on to see.
I have added a fan into the helmet today. Two fans are better than one!
Couple things more before heading to CV.
Paint a couple red strips on the left and right front portions of the helmet.
Paint the vac hoses from the tanks to the helmet silver to match action figure paint scheme.
Paint the blasters silver.
Dread Locks.
Add a strap to each elbow pad.
Time to work on some dreads!
Later - Jerry

Update 7.21.2010
Blasters are done.
Built some dreads too...
Irrigation hole, spray adhesive, yarn, and some back brushing.
I will have to trim to length to match the figure.
Seal the ends and tip them in white and more back brushing.
Tank hoses painted tomorrow and I will be done for now.
Almost ready for CV!
also noticed that I have some painting (black) to do since I modified the foam in the bucket for air flow.

Now that I see the dreads in the photo they do not look "dread" enough for me.
I have been chatting with some belly dancers on Facebook who make their own dread out of synthetic hair.
Sounds pretty easy so I may give that a try and change them out.
Got to go to the Beauty Supply tomorrow!
