Old Rex Armor... Under Construction

Post by Proto »

Hey Dee Oh Everyone

I ordered my Clone Armor a couple of weeks ago to do Captain Rex from Rebels Season 2. and I just got news from Kevin at KWDesigns that it should be shipping next week.

I may be a bit over my head, considering that this is my first armor build. The harder the challenge... the less hair I'll have at the end.

Just be prepared for some frantic screams for help from time to time.

I'll post more when there is more to post...

Soon, my precious. Soon [rubs hands together]

Well, I got my tracking number yesterday. My Ole Rex Armor should be hitting the door... Uhm... Soon. :villain:

I plan on post a WIP on both clonetroopers.net and Rebel Legion's Clone Trooper forum.

I'll even post a few pics here if you want.

me and my BIG head

Post by Proto »

Well, I ran into my first BIG hurdle today.

I have most of the parts trimmed, and I decided to test fit the chest piece. One piece at a time worked out even though it was a bit tight around my ribs. I connected the shoulder pieces to the chest and back with blue tape and tried to put it on. Well, my BIG HEAD would not fit through the neck hole. :whatthe: ARGH! [insert other not so nice expletives] :sonofa: :bleep:

Not happy at the moment.  :whatthe:

You should be able to slide the chest piece on separate from the back and as long as your neck fits in there you're good to go.

one "Slight" problem. On this armor, the connection between the chest and back is permanent and filled smooth.

I might not have a choice in putting an opening on the shoulders.

I'm not familiar with clones, but if you are making the same guy that is in your avatar I dont see why the shoulder strap has to be permanent. There are TK's that velcro them on in the front. But if you are making another version then I dont know. I'm sure there's a solution on the clontetrooper boards.

Ok, looking at my screen grabs one more time. the section under the shoulder straps are one piece (between the chest and back) but I am noticing that so little is actually visible that a seam there would be hardly visible.

By the way, I wanted to thank you Mike. You might not know clone armor, but your responses are helping me think these problems through.

As far as the Clonetrooper boards. I'm getting more responses here actually. I haven't received any responses since I started my WIP there. I thought helping to figure out a new costume would generate more interest than it has.

Oh well

I'm not too familiar with the animated style, as I've only done a realistic one. I always got the impression that animated style was supposed to have the chest and back seamless. I may be wrong on that. Like Flash was saying, you could do it like a TK or realistic clone with the 2 halves separate. With this version being so new, I'm not sure what the CRL will have for that when the CRL team gets around to writing that up.

Alrighty

I decided that I need that I need a goal. Since I have no ideas what events are coming up, I decided on a very loose goal.

Since Star Wars: Rebels season 2 is set to premiere on Oct. 14. I would like this armor done by (or around) that date. I figure that is about a month and a half to do basically 1/2 a clone armor.

What do you think? Am I Nuts? Can it be done?
