Yuna for Dragon*Con (Done)
Since I want to keep track of my progress like my other costume I figured I would share this here. So my costume I am making specifically for Dragon*Con next year will be Yuna's summuner costume from the PS2 game Final Fantasy X. I know I could buy the whole thing from China, but wheres the fun in that?
Anyway here are some reference pictures I am working off of, for people who do not know the costume.
So very first thing I made was the flower that goes over the Obi
Next I worked on making some of the beads for the tassel of the Obi and the earrings. I have since, put holes through, glazed and fired these bad boys in my oven.
Tonight I made the necklace because the one I bought looked way to clunky compared to how delicate the one from the game looks. (Mine is the lower one )
I have also bought some fabric for the sleeves and the white part of the top. There is a friend of a co-worker who does machine embroidery who I might commission to do the skirt, Obi and Obi bow embroidery, however I would need to make the JEF files for the machine. O_o And this is where I am so far. What do you all think?

Can't wait to see the final product Mira_Darkstar.
I, too, am creating a new character but it definitely has nothing to do with the Star Wars Universe.

Wow, you just can't seem to stop. Looking forward to the finished project. You should come to Youmacon next year. I have a few pictures from previous cons if you want more references.

I'd love to see your Youmancon pictures, and since I will have the costume done for next years, I was planning on going. ^_^SlvrCrest wrote:Wow, you just can't seem to stop. The flower thingy looks cool. Did you make the whole thing yourself?

Re: Yuna for Dragon*Con (WIP)
I picked out the 4 colors of fabric, found a pattern cut out all the little pieces after putting the fusible interfacing on them and then my mom who does a lot of quilting did the satin stitching around everything and the button holes.

Re: Yuna for Dragon*Con (WIP)
A small update for this costume. I tried making the black bra myself and that didn't work out as well as I had hoped so I ordered a bikini top off e-bay, which I just got today. Also started making the white part of the top, here are a few pictures of trying the draping to get the look right. When comparing to my reference pictures I think I need to show a little more of the bikini top.

You are just cranking out the costume parts lately aren't you? Looks good to me, but I don't know the character so couldn't say if your parts were right or wrong.

Re: Yuna for Dragon*Con (WIP)
Okay a little more has been done on this costume. Tonight I worked on the beading that hangs down from the flower on the Obi. I used a dowel rod, sculpty, eye screws, floss, spray paint and of course creativity.
I haven't decided yet on whether or not to fray/brush out the tassels.

Re: Yuna for Dragon*Con (WIP)
Okay finished up the Obi decoration tonight and re-pinned the top, to make it look a little more like the reference pictures. And made the decision to attach the white top to the black bikini top using two snaps on each side. (To bad I don't have any right now)
I also show the wrong side out part of the fabric I am using for the Obi to give myself a better idea of how the top will look.

Re: Yuna for Dragon*Con (WIP)
Time to revive this WIP thread, I have progressed a tiny bit with this costume. BTW tons of photos, you are warned. lol
I have finished the earrings, here are some progression photos.
I have also worked a little bit on the staff. I need to take a few more photos of the staff as it has progressed more than what I am posting right now.

I tried making it as light as possible with using the dowel rod, but I also used a clipon eating for the main piece to be on the safe side when wearing it. ^_^Mieal_Deneb wrote:Awesome work so far. Just moved these threads into the costuming section. I don't know why I didn't think of that before, since it'd get more attention in here.

Re: Yuna for Dragon*Con (WIP)
A little bit more progress to report on this costume.
For the Obi I commissioned my mom to help put the main part together. I used the reverse side of the yellow satin like fabric for this, added some medium weight interfacing to both sides and added a small strip of pink fabric to represent the pink under obi.
For the hanging down "tabs" I used the same fabric as I did for the white top. (The tabs are a continuation of the white top) These are stitched and I will add i think three small snaps to each tab to attach to the obi.
For the skirt I tried dying the navy blue suiting fabric with purple so that in natural sunlight it would have a purple/violet hue.
Worked out the pleating pattern and also have commissioned my mom to work on the skirt.
For the Staff, I have painted the longest part of the PVC pipe blue, painted the cut 3/4" PVC coupler to be the gold ring before the leather wraps and wrapped the base of the staff with red deer skin leather.
I glued and trimmed the leather wrapping on the staff as well as glued the gold ring. I also had to add another layer of blue paint. I have to still glue the bell attachment.
And last but not least I got my wig in the mail.
