I'm also planning to do the 100-push-up challenge in addition to my P90X. I did the initial test on Monday (which was my cardio day), and I managed 39 before total failure (I was so close to 40, but my shoulders just wouldn't have any more of it right at the top, so I can't count that one).

I start Monday the 16th.

I just took the initial push up test and from those results it looks like I should start on week 3.

I'm going to start Sunday. :D

Rome- you look awesome and great the last time we troop together, I lost more weight. the more I "DO NOT" work out at the gym, the more I lose. ...traveling has me very busy lately.

I'm naturally slim, so I must stay in the gym in order to stay bulk and tone, at my age (55 yrs), I would say "I'm Blessed" with no weight problem. ......."if I only have a butt, I'll be set :rotflmao: for life" :rotflmao:

Rome keep up the good work, you and your wife are awesomely tone.

You do it when you feel you need to. Don't feel forced into it, because nothing ruins motivation faster than feeling like you HAFTA DO IT. Like homework. :)

Ya, homework and home work suck! I am at week 4 now, and it is all yoga, stretch and core stuff. I was looking forward to running the other day( I do that in place of kenpo) core was cool. But the other stuff is way to slow for me. But I stick with it. But feel forced like if it were homework :( can not wait till week 5 on Monday and do the fun stuff!!

Bad weigh in this week...not terrible as I was only up .8 lbs. I forgot my WW materials under my desk at work on Friday and just guessed at everything last weekend and didn't write down any points. That does not work for me. If I don't track, I gain. The week did have a great ending since I was able to fit in a size 6!!! Considering I started at a size 12 or 14, this is HUGE for me! I sent Tony a text from the dressing room while doing the happy dance. :D

Tracking like crazy this week so I can reach my goal of 130 before Thanksgiving

YAY me!!! I finally reached my goal weight...and surpassed it!!

Now to move on to the maintenance mode for the next 6 weeks so I can reach lifetime status with Weight Watchers and never have to pay for it again :D

So...new stats are:

148.8/130/128.8 = loss of 18 pounds!!

One note, since a chiropractor would seriously mess up my bad back worse than it currently is, I wouldn't give blanket "go see a chiropractor" advice without knowing how bad your scoliosis is. People seem to think that all back problems are just like "that time they were sore for a few days after shoveling snow, and it really sucked". If only. While I'm thrilled chiropractic care has worked/does work for many, it doesn't apply to all situations and shouldn't be offered as a quick cure-all.
CBlack wrote:OK - here's my situation.
My desire - To trim a couple inches off of my waist and possibly add a couple to my arms (in a positive way)
My problem - A case of scoliosis which is not serious enough to require surgery or braces or anything, but IS enough to leave my back very susceptable to fatigue.
I've tried starting to exercise quite a few times and each time I go until I end up overdoing it and my back is sore for days. What kinds of things can I do that will help with my target areas without putting me out of commission by overdoing it???

Thanks!!
Hey Chris,

As someone who struggles with serious back problems and weight problems, I can tell you what I have done/am doing.

1) Check with your doctor. They may have stretches and exercises that can specifically help you build strength around the part of your back that tires and causes discomfort.
2) Always stretch before and after, carefully.
3) Try to keep good posture, suck in your abs and make sure you are breathing properly (if you're gasping, you're working out too hard).
4) Don't do too much all at once. Take your time warming up, keep tabs on your heart rate, and take time cooling down. When you start out walking 20 minute intervals on a treadmill at a slow speed it doesn't seem like you would need to warm up/cool down, but you do.
5) Start with light weights or bands with low resistance. Form is super-important, so having someone who knows what the right way to do something help out is key when starting (physical therapy was key, for me).
6) I like to break my strength work into body areas: legs/lower body one day, arms/shoulders another and abs/sides another.
7) When you notice that your mph on the treadmill isn't getting you into the target heart rate anymore, then it is time to increase speed/time.
8) Finally, try to find ways to keep things interesting. I like to read books and/or listen to NPR podcasts while walking on the treadmill.

I can't wait to see your Chewie finished! :)

Rome, thanks for starting this!

A companion piece to the Hundred Pushups challenge is the Two Hundred Situps (the sites are linked). I tried the initial test today and discovered that this one is going to be difficult, not for the physical exertion, but -- of all things -- the boredom!

I did 110 and I felt that I can do more, but therein lay the problem: I got bored.
