Are the recessed areas on the clone back detail supposed to be painted black or just left white? Seems like it could go either way but just wanted to make sure.

Are you talking about the vent area? Picture might help some.

The 4 holes and the other little recessed parts.

It seems like I see different paint jobs and was wondering if there was any consensus on how it is
supposed to be or is it left up to each person?

As far as I know, unless they they have changed the CRL's, it does not need paint.

Yeh, I think I drilled out the bigger holes on mine and covered with mesh just for extra venting, beyond that don't think there was anything else painted.

I kind of like the look, so I think I'll just go ahead and paint the parts I want to. Thanks guys!

As a general rule, you should look at the clones in the source material (the movies) for your build. The CRL could change at anytime and what was once "ok" may no longer be. If you follow what appears in the movies(and other "canon" source materials), instead of what everybody else does/did, you will be better off in the long run. I wish I would have done that when I built my first suit. I wouldn't have rivets in my knee plate and thigh ammo boxes on my TK armor like I do.
