Great Lakes Garrison & Base

Not sure where to post this. This website that we are using to communicate each other, post dicussion topics, and allow members to connect. Is there a technical name for it? 501st uses the same style to connect with garrisons across the country and around the globe.

I belong to another group that is highly decentralized, with local chapters around the country and is in dire needs of an effective web-based hub for information sharing and connection.

I would like to recommend using what we use, but I am not tech-savy enough to describe it or know if it has a technical name for this layout and style. Can anyone provide some feedback or direction? Anything appreciated. Thanks

This style of website is called a "forum". And that's about where my technical knowledge ends in terms of how to set one up from scratch. I know a lot of people are switching to Discord because it doesn't require as much technical skill to setup. I've heard that you can organize a Discord server to function more like a forum vs the default setup with voice and text chat channels.

Hopefully some of the more tech savvy people will speak up with better info!

To add to what Shelbi said, our forum is privately hosted so we maintain the software, which is specifically phpBB. There are many other forum applications like it but we pay for the hosting of it. You can see if you can find a free or low-cost forum host, which will probably limit things like the number of members or size/quantity of posts. Or you can pool together some credits to pay for a nicer option.
