Okay so I have to possibility of buying a casting of Pam's shin guards for Mara Jade, however she told me her calf measurement and compared to mine I would need to add something like what the stormtroopers do. I will also be needing to paint them, pad the knee pad and put some sort of attachment setup for the two half for the shin guard. So I am looking for info from all you lovely armored people. ^_^
Thanks a bunch,
Anna

Re: Shin Guard Questions
We can probably help a little better once we see them. Kinda' hard to offer suggestions without knowing how they go together

Okay this picture compilation is taking straight from Pam's website.Crimson wrote:We can probably help a little better once we see them. Kinda' hard to offer suggestions without knowing how they go together

So they would have the seam in both the front and the back. Pam will sell them to me with the excess fiberglass cut off and sanded, so i will have to do the rest. >_>

Re: Shin Guard Questions
Basically, you'll need to cut the shins at one of the natural seams, add a backer, reinforce the backer to the shin and bondo. It's pretty easy really. It's a lot like assembling RC armor for a bigger guy. You just add and seam the pieces. Then, it's a matter of painting them flawlessly. There are a few tricks that I've learned over the years to get a nice smooth finish thanks to hanging out with some of the people in the costuming community.

What would I use for a "backer" and the bondo will it work with Fiberglass? And what type of paint would I use?Jaster wrote:Basically, you'll need to cut the shins at one of the natural seams, add a backer, reinforce the backer to the shin and bondo. It's pretty easy really. It would probably be easier to show you in person, really. Next time there's an armor party, I can show you some examples in person if you like.

Re: Shin Guard Questions
The shim piece would be nothing more then a piece of abs or plastic. You could go as far a getting a for sale sign and paint it. I could send you some scraps, just need to know how long of a piece you need, but... I guess you would need some measurements for that.. lol
I should be throwing together a armor party soon. I will let you know the date!!

Well doesn't sound to difficult to do so I guess I will go with purchasing them from Pam. And I look forward to hearing more about a planned armor party, as long as I have them by then. lolWags wrote:The shim piece would be nothing more then a piece of abs or plastic. Might as well go for it, because if I know Pam's work, they'll be top of the line. Any modifications you need, we can help you with pointers. Probably won't be that hard since, if you're able to make molds and castings, adding shims will pretty much be as easy as stomping through flower beds.
