I don't think you will need to "swat the menfolk away" sis, not until I get the black body suit one done at least.

So I received a response and there were some issues with my shoulder armor not being the right color combo, my lightsaber not being exactly Luke's and my hair not being in a braid. They want me to fix these to be considered formal. I have replied to there email with arguments for my costume being considered formal since I did have "one" of the things listed on the required list, being the wraps for the boots.

Okay maybe someone else can clear this up for me, but when they have listed on the requirements for a costume and they have the list near the bottom that reads:
"Formal Requirements:
You must have at least one of the following items to be accepted:


1. Luke Skywalker (ANH or ESB) hero lightsaber hilt
2. Blue blade for lightsaber
3. Red or Red/Gold hair (either natural or a wig)
4. shoulder armor shaped differently on right shoulder than on left.
5. Wraps for both boots; going from the foot up to top of boot."

Where it say "one" of the things on the list does that mean if I have one, which I do it should be accepted as formal or do I really need to have everything on that list to be accepted as formal? This is was why I took some leeway on the shoulder armor color and the hilt of the saber when preparing this costume because I knew I had at least three of these (being #'s 2, 3 & 5). I just want to understand better so that future costumes I am making will not have an issue.

I am also asking the judges this but I was wondering if anyone else could shed some light.

The way I read that, it says that you only need to have one of those items to be considered formal.

You actually have:
2. Blue blade for lightsaber
3. Red or Red/Gold hair (either natural or a wig)
4. shoulder armor shaped differently on right shoulder than on left.
5. Wraps for both boots; going from the foot up to top of boot.

To me, that's four of the five optional items to be considered Formal. Should be a no-brainer for the costume judge.

EDIT:
Here's where the confusion comes in with these standards:

Mara Jade (Green Alternate)

Required Items:


1. Green dress with long sleeves, V or scoop neck, and ends above the knees and green leggings OR Green dress with long sleeves, scoop neck, mid-calf to ankle length, with wrap around overskirt.
2. Black or brown boots, at least mid-calf height
3. Black or brown belt with silver buckle
4. Brown shoulder bag
5. Shoulder armor: either black and silver (metallic) or brown and black (eg. leather or foam). Two rectangular insets in each.
6. Brooch: Circular and silver, 2-3" in diameter
7. Luke Skywalker (ANH or ESB) hero lightsaber hilt
8. Long, braided, NATURAL color hair.

In Red, it says a "Hero" hilt...that implies a static, non-FX replica prop...i.e. a "belt-hanger."

That is required for formal acceptance. I'm sure that the Luke ANH FX or ESB FX will be acceptable in it's place, though.

What bothers me about these standards, is that the last required item says NATURAL colored hair, then in the optional items list it states you can have a wig....what's the deal with that? The same can be said for the lightsaber.

I think those standards need to be re-written and someone needs to clarify the intention of the Formal Optional list to the person that wrote those standards in the first place. That list is supposed to consist of extra items that you can have that will go in addition to, the regular required items for a given costume, not as replacements/upgrades from the required list.
