They don't have to fit perfectly flush. The ones in the movies didn't.

When working on my ears I ran across something that helped a lot. I got mine as flush as I could (and they were pretty good), but there was still a little bit of gap. What I ended up doing was getting some white caulk and then carefully using the caulk gun to squirt the caulk under the ear and fill in the gaps. It worked wonders and really hides the spots that aren't "perfect".

That fit is fine. Some are perfectly seamed and some have huge gaps.
