Finally getting a blaster I think I can work with

Post by TK471 »

repost from FISD:
I saw this on that web auction place, and got these two for 27 bucks plus 8 shipping US

It says the piece that holds the folding stock is broke, but that's ok, I'm going to rework the gun to carry around anyway, it doesn't need to open up!

I haven't got it yet, but I might be able to take my current Kenner blaster (which I finally found, with my holster!) and swap out the folding stock. I might put the lighting system from a battle droid blaster into it as well, and then give it a good repaint. I know the folding stock isn't exact, but it's going to look much better than my current one.

Very nice Pete. The old toy blasters with the working folding stock is a rare find. I'm really surprised it didn't go much higher.

Well, I got the blasters, and they are fine for being as old as they are (30 years!). The stormtrooper rifle folding stock, is definately not 'realistic', but I can work with it. I'll most likely make it solid (non-moving) on the newer Kenner blaster, as it's rather rickety feeling, and who knows if the plastic has gotten brittle over time. Not sure if I could make similar parts using bits of plastic, and I don't have funds/time to mold the thing (kind of overkill for it anyhow, given the better Kenner kits out there).

I found this tutorial, I think I'll do some of the things mentioned here:

I remember running through the yards shooting everything in sight with those two bad boys back in the late 70's!

Well, I finally got around to modding my newer Kenner blaster using the folding stock from the vintage one. I was going to get fancier... but decided for now, just to get the stock transferred over. I wanted the folding stock to work, and I wasn't sure how exactly to do that, so I looked around the house for ideas... and decided to go with a cabinet door catch. It works great! The part was .89 cents from Home Depot, and after bending the mount tabs for the inside catch part, I was able to rivet it to the blaster, putting the outer catch in the stock (using a washer under it, to keep it from bending too much). I did have to bend the catch a bit to not be so tight. Here's pics:

Gun and stock need to be re-painted, but it's OK for now!

From the post over on 501st Forums, from Hyperdyne Labs:

Electronic upgrade package for Hasbro blaster... not going to be cheap, ans while not a movie accurate thing, it's just FUN, and I like that! I like the 'stun' mode!
