Chewie build thread......

OK I admit it.....I just can't keep a secret about something I'm excited about. Since I've already told several people at the last couple troops, I may as well spill the beans...................I've decided to sell off the parts to my Shadow Scout and Snow Scout costumes because................it's time that we here in Michigan have a CHEWBACCA!!!!!
I'm making progress on the suit. It's coming along slowly but surely. I'm modeling mine after a Chewie from New England - there are pics of his amazing costume on the Legion Mission Reports under the event the NEG (I think) did at a minor league baseball game. Here are the shoes I am putting together:


I'm getting a set of toes shortly (now that DC is over) to add to the front. Assuming I get the usual 4" or so of extra height from the mask, I'll top out at right around 7'. Duck is working on the bowcaster for me .

Here's the last picture I took about a week ago of my progress on the suit.


I've done some more latch hooking (that's right - I'm latch hooking the hair into the whole suit ) on the back side until my grey hair arrives (had problems with the first company so I finally found another source for the color I need). My goal is to have this ready for the Icehawks game at the end of Jan. The mask is going to take some work so hopefully I can pull it off!!! I'll keep everyone posted (assuming you WANT me to).

No stilts. Between the feet in the pic above and the extra height on the mask, I'll top out at right around 7'0" which I think is good enough. I thought about stilts, but was afraid if I boosted the legs TOO much my arms would look out of proportion. This way will put me at worst on even level with Vader and probably at least a good half a foot taller than most other troopers, so the desired effect will still be there.

My grey hair should hopefully arrive tomorrow (It arrived in Allen Park yesterday) and then I can continue.

I have to go up about another 2 inches and then I can start really adding in the grey hair. I'm adding a touch here and there and it's really giving it a nice effect.

While I was waiting for my grey hair to come in the mail, I started on the back side of the shirt as well.....

I'm working on that.
There is a website from the UK where the guy has like 40 different Chewie growls, roars, etc. that can be loaded onto an mp3 player. Just need to figure out how to play them. I have a couple of ideas including this thing...

The speaker comes right in the shirt and has a pushbutton remote to play the sounds you want. A couple guys on the RL boards have ordered one. If they like it and think it will be loud enough I might go with that and not have to strap a speaker around me.
